Nerja Spain - A Spanish Gem on the Costa del Sol

Nerja Spain is a favorite tourist destination among local and foreign tourists alike, and it's easy to why. For starters, Nerja has the perfect location on the Costa del Sol or the Sun Coast of Spain. Once a series of quiet fishing villages, the Costa del Sol has now been transformed to a string of holiday resorts with idyllic beaches, just like Nerja.

The largest beach in Nerja is Burriana Beach, which also has the most restaurants and cafes and the best facilities, such as showers, sun beds and a water sports centre. It is also a Blue Flag awardee.

Other beaches in Nerja include Torrecilla Beach, which has recently gone through a lot of improvements, Playazo Beach, the longest beach in town, Calahonda Beach, with breathtaking views of the Sierra Almijara, and El Salon Beach, a small, secluded beach that is hard to find but certainly worth the search.

Aside from its beaches, the town has other attractions, most notably the 'Balcon de Europa', once the site of a Moorish castle which is now a wide promenade that offers spectacular views of the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean below and the rugged mountains beyond.

You will also find the magnificent Nerja Caves, with its astonishing stalactite and stalagmite formations, and the Nerja Donkey Sanctuary nearby. And if you're still looking for more fun stuff to do, you can always drive on further to the villages in the Sierra Nevada or the city of Granada.

In spite of undergoing a lot of changes, though, what makes Nerja different from other resort towns on the Costa del Sol is that it still retains its Andalusian charm, with its winding streets and whitewashed houses decorated with fresh flowers still intact.
